Working as a teacher, cartoonist and illustrator, Jillian Tamaki is an expert in expressing mood in her work. Her style, while consistently recognisable throughout, is elastic in how it can portray the feeling of a scene.
I love the delicacy of her ballerina portraits, and the passion and energy of her musicians. Jillian doesn’t rely on colour alone to speak of the mood, but uses paints, charcoal, and pens to create expressive marks which add depth to her drawings. Her client list includes The New Yorker, Penguin Books and Marvel.
