Bringing a modern digital spin to Beatles-like psychedelia, Steven Scott creates gorgeously coloured images rich with detail. His preference for the digital means his busy images are pared down to simple lines and clean, pure colours. He took time out of his busy schedule to talk to Ape on the Moon about his work and inspiration.

Mikael Kangas and Clear Fashion Vectors

When you think of vector-based digital imagery, you might usually think of thick, loud colours and forms, but Mikael Kangas manages to achieve a sensitivity and softness to his images. His play with light and transparency, like here with the balloons, water, and the fabric of girl’s skirt, have a refreshing weightlessness to them.

Raphael Vicenzi aka mydeadpony uses a mixture of various paints, inks, pens, and brushes to draw his illustrations before fitting them together on the computer. It’s the way he places these different materials together that I think creates the real dynamism is his work. Soft water colours are placed next to energetic pen marks and doodle-like adornments grow into bold, hand-drawn typography.
