Minni Havas has exceptional skill with coloured pencils. It may be her interest in the finest details such as the shades of red and blue under human skin, which she mentions in her bio that gives her the ability to draw so accurately.
Among her tools she lists water solvent colour pencils of different strengths, a rubber of which she cuts out little pieces with a surgeon’s knife, an automatic sharpener she got as a Christmas present from her boyfriend, a set of small brushes for the most detailed lines as well as a small vacuum cleaner for cleaning the dust coming out of the pencils. However, it’s not just her obvious photorealistic talents that make her work so intense, but also the vibrant colours and dreamy poses of the women in her work.
Minni studied fashion design at the University of Art and Design Helsinki, where she is still currently based. Her obvious passion for fashion comes through in her illustrations, especially in the love and attention given to different fabrics, how they move and behave with light. I particularly like the ruffles of the soft skirt next to the sparkling sequins!
