The detailing in Tim McDonagh‘s ink illustrations is fine and precise. An incredible amount is poured into every corner of the page to create vast scenes with lots to keep the eyes happy. However, Tim brings out even more when he colours them digitally. He particularly uses colour to bring out certain elements and allow them to come forward within the images they’re in.
With work that has such a polished quality to it, I was really happy to see that he’d included some scans from his sketch books. Although the finished images are beautiful, it’s also nice to see the individual marks of the pens, the rough working out, and ‘notes to self’ in these pages.
