We like the way Isabel Arenas puts together her digital fashion illustrations. Working on her graphics tablet, she draws directly onto the computer and is able to achieve a nice painterly look. Along with the realism in her drawings, she blends in patterns and plays with beautiful colour palettes.
The image here, ‘Contagion’, which was The Society of Illustrators’ 2012 Student Competition winner, is a good example. We really like the simpler, silhouetted figures that break up the more realistic digital painting, and the linear pattern of the leaves. Isabel tells us more about herself and her work.
I am currently a freelance illustrator and designer residing in Miami, Florida. I graduated from Ringling College of Art and Design, majoring in Illustration. My most recent illustrations have a prominent fashion presence with a strong emphasis on line and rendering.
I tend to work in appropriate color harmonies to capture mood, followed by pattern that usually ties the composition together for a more design-oriented look. I work completely digitally from starting sketches to finish almost always on photoshop on my Wacom tablet, and take joy in doing traditional pieces from time to time.
