Illustrator, Smithe has mastered some pretty great hatching techniques, which he diligent applies by hand to create his surreal images. Although they are modern and bursting with his own style, his work includes more traditional mark making that shows that he really knows what he is doing.

We particularly like this series of retro, Sci Fi illustrations. Think more nuts, bolts and ’50s transistors than chips and circuits, all painfully revealed from behind peeled android faces. They’re a lot of fun but also pretty sinister— in just the right way.

The deconstructed figures are reoccurring themes in his work, but not only restricted to drawings. Smithe works across a range of disciplines, making sculptures and working on large-scale murals, too. Check out the video so see how his unraveling characters look when blown up. Also, he was kind enough to send us some process shots to look at so we can get a better view of his skills in practice, have a look!
