We featured Mar Hernández and her studio, Malota illustration for her clean, geometric screen prints back in 2009. We thought it’d be interesting to catch up with Mar and take a look at some recent work.
Her prints are as beautiful as ever, but we really like the more organic direction that the forms in her imagery have gone. There’s a lot looser, flowing design in the people and animals in her work, filled with masses of tactile texture.
I am a professional illustrator, I understand the art as a medium through which we can tell stories through images. In my opinion, a good illustrator is one who is able to convey a certain message or feeling through the use of the image.
Consequently, the tools I use, materials, equipment or techniques are important issues but they are always in the background and always conditioned to the idea and communicative intention.
That’s why I try to learn as many techniques and tools as possible to know what qualities and what possibilities they bring me so as to be able to choose the one that best meets my communication needs.
