The guys over at OFF LIFE have embarked on an exciting and ambition project that will see a year of some 52 illustrators tackle current events over as many weeks.
Week Two— Grace Wilson
OFF LIFE is the UK’s only street press comic, bringing the talents of contemporary illustrators to the city streets, and all for free. Check out our feature from last year to find out more about the publication.
Their new project, ‘Yellow’, playfully borrows it’s name from the form of sensationalist journalism that puts dramatic, impactful headlines over well-researched content.
Week One— Stanley Chow
Each week, a different illustrator will take on a recent story from the news, creating an evolving body of work reflecting the events of a year. And with illustrators like Jean Jullien, Martin Rowson, Supermundane, and I Love Dust already signed up, it should be a very interesting year at that!
The good news for anyone looking to get involved is that they are currently still open for submissions to fill up the weeks. If you’d like more information on how to submit, check out their website.
Below, the team from OFF LIFE tell us more about the project.
Week Three— Takayo Akiyama
For as long as news has appeared in ink, artists have complimented written journalism with their own sideways, illustrated take on the current affairs of their day.
Now the team behind OFF LIFE and One Thing I Know is launching Yellow, a project that will see 52 artists each allocated a single week over the course of a year and then given two pages to illustrate their take on the news and current affairs that occurs within those seven days.
With no set political pursuasion or style guide, Yellow will gradually build an illustrated take on a whole year of news from 52 unique perpectives.
A new piece will be posted on offlife.co.uk every Monday until a whole year of news has been documented. Each artwork will then be collected in a book - complimented by essays from some of today’s top writers and thinkers - and published in December 2015.
