‘Curious Dot No.1: Thought Experiments’ is the first release from the recently establish independent press, Curious Dot. The issue sees international illustrators take on some of our worlds most interesting ideas and theories.
Curious Dot was set up by illustrator Tony Johnson and animator Adam Wells in the summer of 2014. Their aim is to release a series of quasi-academic-themed collaborative publications, ‘Thought Experiments’ being their first.
Thought experiments are philosophical and scientific concepts designed to help us consider complex ideas and theories. One popular thought experiment that seems to be popping up a lot in pop culture recently is ‘Schrödinger’s Cat’ for example.
Given free reign to go for one of their choice, the illustrators produced some great work based on these notions.
The result is a beautiful new zine with some intriguing ideas. And produced by a range of great talent, including some artists previously featured on AOTM like Charlotte Mei and Eric Comstock among others.
Talking about the issue, Adam Wells says, “We didn’t want work that existed only to illustrate a text but rather a variety of visual responses that stood up on their own.“
Tony goes on to say, “We were also keen on the idea of the zine being a little enigmatic, but as each thought experiment is still listed readers can investigate further if they’re curious.”
