Author: Philip Dennis

With twists and turns through colourful mazes of intricate designs, Juan Díaz-Faes’ interlocking repeat patterns present a powerful dose of pop fun.

You can catch a glimpse of them on apparel, stationary, in installations, and more.

Juan’s patterns aren’t just pleasing arrangements of shapes, although they can totally be enjoyed that way. He often brings in the playful character design and narrative elements that appear in other areas of his work.

As much a Juan sets his mind to constructing these ornately balanced motifs, as an educator, he also unravels some of the theory behind how our creativity comes into play.

I enjoy drawing, watching movies, eating, reading, having a laugh that’s about it.

I’m in the middle of my PhD about Applied Creativity and the Creative Process, so I can dig into how awesomeness is done.

I also teach workshops and give conferences about all this, to illustrate how creativity can be learned.
