Jaime Hayde’s Sleek Geometric Designs and Sketches.

Sleek geometric shapes and intricately detailed line work characterise the vector designs by Jaime Hayde. He talks to us about his background in design and how he made the move to exclusively working on illustration.

It’s really interesting to look through Jaime’s sketchbook pages, more of which you can see on his website. Working with graph paper, he carefully maps out the curves, forms and angles that make up his polished style.

He goes into more detail about this way of working as well as the path he took from his early experiences with art to where his work has taken him today.

Ever since I’ve had memories, drawing and exploring the imaginary world by means of paper and pencil have been my greatest passion. I do illustration and graphic design.

After graduation, I worked as a graphic designer in branding. This experience steered me towards illustration which became my newly discovered love and obsession. Naturally, after this new found love grew bigger my only choice was to continue working as an illustrator for various companies.

My signature work has a simple visual language, striped from excessive detailing. The original concept is easily seen in the end result.

In that way, the message intended is efficiently conveyed which is a really important thing. During college, I discovered the American modernists , their work gave me new direction and a new philosophy.

I love sketching on paper because this is my natural way to do, so I try with colors, shapes, lines and with different techniques such as markers, watercolor or just pens.

I always carry one sketchbook in my backpack and some pencils, the sketchbook is not always the same, that’s why I have six in current use. An important detail about this is that I use the old notebooks that my little brothers left after school.

I consider myself to be a very curious person and my curiosity makes me interested in working on all sorts of projects; cooperating with graphic design studios, advertising agencies, digital environment building, press illustration, apps etc.

At the same time, I enjoy creating custom order personal portraits, this gives me the opportunity to meet many people from all the world and that’s great.
